Creston Mapes

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Creston has fond memories of his boyhood in Bath, Ohio, where he became enchanted with his future wife, way back in the fourth grade. His father, Bernie, owned and operated The Weathervane Furniture Shop in town. The whole family lived right upstairs in the century-old house known as "The Shop."

Creston studied journalism at Bowling Green State University, then began his writing career. During the past 30 years, he has worked as a reporter, corporate copywriter, creative director, freelance writer, and author.

Creston can be reached through the Contact link on his Website.

ABOUT THE BOOK

A rally for a controversial presidential candidate.
A terrorist threat.
A nightmare of cataclysmic proportions.

Jack and Pamela Crittendon have hit the breaking point. After months out of work as a reporter, Jack is playing Mr. Mom and working part-time at Festival Arena with his survivalist friend Brian Shakespeare. Meanwhile, Pamela has gone back to work full-time while eight months pregnant. Having her recently widowed mother on hand isn't making matters any easier. With financial pressures boiling, Jack reports for duty at a rally for controversial presidential candidate Martin Sterling where he expects a mindless night on the job. But when Homeland Security picks up intel about a potential terrorist threat, Jack and Shakespeare are thrust into a life-or-death battle to save their own lives--and the lives of thousands of innocent people.

If you would like to read the first chapter of Sky Zone, go HERE.

My Thoughts:
This is the third and final installment in Mapes' series The Crittendon Files.  While each book can be read as a stand alone novel, I would recommend reading all three!  Mapes is a genius writer with a unique gift of taking themes straight from the headlines and incorporating them into a story that grabs you from the beginning pages and doesn't let you go until the very end.  Mapes' characters are believable and genuine. The twists and turns in his plot will leave you dizzy.
You will love John Crittendon's character!  He's a "real" man with "real" struggles.  Mapes touches on so many aspects of a good story...family relationships, struggles in faith, fear, love, suspense, mystery.  Mapes quickly became one of my favorite authors with the first book in this series Fear Has A Name.  He solidified his books' place on my keeper shelf with the second book Poison Town.  After finishing Sky Zone, I can't wait to see what comes from Mapes' gift next!
Read this series, all three books.  You will not be disappointed.

Happy Reading,
Jennifer

A Deadly Business

Lis Wiehl is one of the nation's most prominent trial lawyers and highly regarded commentators.  Currently, she is the legal analyst and reporter on the Fox News Channel and Bill O’Reilly’s sparring partner in the weekly “Is It Legal?” segment on The O’Reilly Factor. Prior to that she was O’Reilly’s co-host on the nationally syndicated show The Radio Factor.  She is also a Professor of Law at New York Law School.  Her column “Lis on Law” appears weekly on FoxNews.com.
Prior to joining Fox News Channel in New York City, Wiehl served as a legal analyst and reporter for NBC News and NPR’s All Things Considered.  Before that, Wiehl served as a Federal Prosecutor in the United States Attorney’s office.
Wiehl earned her Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School and her Master of Arts in Literature from the University of Queensland.
Wiehl is also the author of The 51% Minority, which won the 2008 award for Books for a Better Life in the motivational category, and Winning Every Time.
She lives in New York.
If the hours don’t kill you, the accused just might.
Mia Quinn is a Seattle prosecutor working on high profile cases in the Violent Crimes unit while juggling the impossible demands of single parenthood. Her husband, Scott, was killed in a car crash that homicide detective Charlie Carlson now believes was no accident. Charlie’s instincts and professional record make it impossible for Mia to refute the evidence she’d rather not believe.
When the powers that be refuse to reopen the case, it’s up to Mia and Charlie to investigate, all the while trying to deny a growing attraction between them. Was her accountant husband really in league with nefarious criminals? And who is the young woman whose photo they find on his computer?
Uncovering the truth may hurt Mia in more ways than one.
My Thoughts:
Ms Wiehl is the author of 8 fiction titles...the most recent being A Deadly Business:  A Mia Quinn Mystery.  There were many things that caused this book to fall flat for me.  The story seemed "forced" in so many places.  The characters were just thrown out there with little back story causing the book to seem as if it was just written in a hurry.  The potential for a great mystery was present, but the plot was predictable and the characters were not believable.  This was my first book by Wiehl and I would be hard pressed to read another one.

*I was sent a complimentary copy of the book by the publisher - Thomas Nelson - for the purpose of providing this review.
Happy Reading,
Jennifer
