Anything: The Prayer That Unlocked My God and My Soul

Jennie Allen is a passionate leader following God's call on her life to catalyze this generation to live what they believe.  She is the author of Restless and the Bible studies Stuck and Chase, and is the founder and visionary of IF:Gathering. Jennie is married to her best friend, Zac, and they have been blessed with four children.

Safe
Comfortable
Happy

Words we all love.  Feelings we all want.  Even crave.
We may love God but being that He's invisible, we chase things that make us feel better faster.  But if God is real, and we are going to live with Him forever, shouldn't He be everything?

Caught up in a happy life filled with daily obligations and empty pursuits, Jennie Allen and her husband Zac prayed a courageous prayer of abandonment that took them on the adventure God had written for them.

"God, we will do anything.  ANYTHING."

Anything is a prayer of surrender that will spark something.  A prayer that will move us to stop chasing what makes us feel good and instead begin to live a life that matters.  Because of her surrender God has continued to unleash His Spirit on Jennie's family and in her ministry.

In this newly revised edition, she shares what's happened since the initial release and includes a Bible study experience for personal reflection or group discussion to help you discover your own anything.  It's time to trade your safe and comfortable life for one that is surrendered, reckless, courageous.

Because if we truly know a God worth giving anything for, everything changes.

My Thoughts:
I had the honor of reviewing Jennie Allen's study Chase sometime back and knew then that Jennie had a gift of relaying God's truths from His Word.  When the opportunity came to review her book/bible study Anything, I knew it would be good...I just didn't understand how timely and good it would be for my life in the season I find myself.  With three children ages 17, 6 and 9, a husband, a very hard move/relocation and a full-time work from home job, I find myself in a season has been a challenge to my faith.

I always thought I would easily be able to pray a prayer of surrender until I read Anything.  In her book, Jennie tenderly and boldly challenges her readers with God's word and truth.  Mixed with her and her husband's story and biblical teaching on surrender, Jennie speaks to the issue of discontentment and the need to evaluate our personal relationship with the God of the universe Who loves us and can be trusted with our anything.

I especially found the section on "living anything" to be particularly helpful.  After all, it is very easy to voice a prayer and another thing all together to put feet and actions to those prayers:
"If we pray anything, we will all, like Christ, be called to give up this life and things we love.  We will be called to risk for His glory.  Christ never intended those who walked with him to feel comfortable and safe. This was meant to be a risk-it-all pursuit.  The glory of God will be made great on this earth, but what a privilege to be part of His plan to restore it."
If you are planning for a Spring Bible study with your small group or thinking of having some friends over to your home for a Bible study, I can't recommend Anything enough. This revised edition includes an 8-week Bible study that helps you see the concept of praying anything in Scripture.

Wild in the Hollow

Amber C. Haines is a soulful writer and a blogger at TheRunamuck.com.  She is curator with her husband Seth of Mother Letters and in a contributor with many acclained writers and bloggers at DaySpring's (in)Courgage.  She lives in Arkansas, has four wild sons, and finds community among the broken.

You can connect with Amber at her website found at www.amberchaines.com.

Amber Haines is a woman hunted by God.  Like Eve in the Garden, she craved the fruit that she thought would lead her to freedom.  But the whispers of temptation led her instead down a path of isolation, dissatisfaction, and life-altering choices.  In her most broken moment, Amber met God waiting for her in the fallout, freely offering her grace and life.

This is the story of the God who makes Himself known in broken places.

My Thoughts:
"Are we not all needy?  If we want to see gospel happen in our churches, we must see from a thousand miles above the little building, which is to say, we need to see the small.  We need to see the things thrown to the side.  Who is on the floor, without a place?"
If I were to sum up Amber's book in one word it would be perspective.  She is transparent in sharing her journey.  Lyrical in places and very raw in others, Amber Haines offers readers a genuineness that the body of Christ, the church, sometimes lacks sorely. Both convicting and encouraging, Wild In The Hollow, is a book to be savored and heeded for the glory of God.
"Instead of leaving the church, we show up and go underground.  We are undercover practitioners of discernment, those who sniff out pain.  We worship Him everywhere, carry Him with us, aware of our community's desires, their wants for hope.  We are not distracted by the surface things, the buying and selling, the committee meetings. Those are not our business.  Our business is to seek out those who are poor in spirit, the lonely, and the ones dying of shame.  Our business is to love our enemies and to forgive those who persecute us.  Our business is to model how all desires are summed up in Christ."
Read this book and you will receive a good return for your time doing so.

My Thoughts:
Sundin's Through Waters Deep was just plain fun to read!  I absolutely loved Jim and Mary.  Sundin wrote with the perfect balance of a budding romance, intrigue and mystery.  She captures the WWII era with good characterization and dialogue as well as description of the times and places affected during the war.  Sundin has started off her new Waves Of Freedom series with a real winner.  I can't wait to see what comes next!
