One young couple.
Once small village.
Thousands of Jews on the run from the Nazis.
Love in a Time of Hate paints an intimate portrait of Magda and Andre Trocme, who transformed a small town in France into a place o safety during the Holocaust. At great risk to their own lives, the Trocmes led efforts in Le Chambon-sur-Lignon to hide more than three thousand Jewish children and adults who were fleeing the Nazis.
Building on the account told in Lest Innocent Blood Be Shed, Hanna Schott portrays a vivid story of resisting evil and sheltering refugees. Through a stubborn commitment to Jesus and His way of peace, Magda and Andre and their accomplices offer a stirring example of daring, indomitable love in a time of hate and horror.
My Thoughts:
Part biography, part history, Love in a Time of Hate will leave you undone and challenged to think differently about what bearing your cross should look like and how loving your neighbor should be lived out. Magda and Andre Trocme didn't just take the thought of every human being created in the image of God as a nice little thought. The Trocmes lived it out faithfully in their reaction and care for each person whose path they crossed despite the inconvenience or challenge. Unfortunately, I was unaware of their story until reading this book. The Trocme's example is one that needs replicating in our world today. Schott has given us a treasure and it is a timely message. Read and be changed!
