Wendy is a wife, mom, and former math teacher. She is the author of Practical Theology for Women: How Knowing God Makes a Difference in Our Daily Lives and By His Wounds You are Healed: How the Message of Ephesians Transforms a Woman's Identity.
Wendy, along with her husband and children, worship at a small Presbyterian church in Seattle, Washington.
She blogs faithfully at Theology for Women.
While many Christian books currently being written for women extol the virtues of the Proverbs 31 woman (Yep, She covers her!), Wendy has taken a different approach in The Gospel Centered Woman. In her book, Wendy shows a Biblical view of womanhood that has the gospel - the good news - of Jesus Christ at its very heart. The value of love, submission and respect in marriage are topics the author addresses, but she does so through an understanding of how the gospel transforms a woman's heart at any age or stage of life.
I appreciated that Wendy didn't make the assumption that every woman who might pick up her book was a stay-at-home, homeschooling mother. Not that anything is wrong with being a stay-at-home mother (I am one myself!) or homeschooling your children! What is refreshing about Wendy's writing is that she focuses, not on the external things that might seem worthy, but on the gospel that is able to transform any woman allowing her to make a difference in her world - in her context. Wendy shares out of her own experiences how the gospel transformed her heart and mind in a myriad of circumstances.
The book is divided into three sections and eleven chapters:
- Created in God's Image: God is Our Help, The Fall of Man and Woman
- Redeemed to Reflect God Once More: Godliness with Contentment, The Gospel Gives Us Sanctuary, Equipped to Forgive and be Forgiven, The Gospel Unites Us with Christ
- Wisdom in the Tension: Wisdom Versus Law, The Bible is the Best Commentary on Itself, Wisdom from Proverbs 31, Instructions from Ephesians, The Gospel in Your Context
