Month of Thanksgiving: Day 5

I am thankful today for the truth of God's word in Lamentations 3:18-24,
"So I say, 'My splendor is gone and all that I had hoped from the LORD.  I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall.  I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me.  YET this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:  Because of the LORD'S great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.  They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.  I say to myself, The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him."
I am thankful for God's mercy and grace and that His compassion for me never fails!

I was painfully reminded of my sin and need for the LORD every minute of the day when I went to buy groceries for my family today and allowed myself to be consumed with worry and anxiety over trying to stay within a very tight budget.  Worry really adds up to not believing in the LORD and not trusting Him to take care of me and my family!  I was immediately convicted of my sin.

And as soon as I began to get all worked up, the LORD in His compassion and mercy towards me through the power of the Holy Spirit, reminded me of how trustworthy He really is. The words of Lamentations 3 ministered to my wandering heart and brought me back to Him!

And then, I got home and put away groceries.  I sat down to check Facebook and this was one of my friend's status updates:

Be happy with what you have...grateful for what you are given...and never want more than you need =)

I'm so very thankful that when my heart wanders, as it so easily does sometimes, the LORD gently and sometimes not so gently, leads me back to His side.  Today He was gentle with me!

Beautiful words, Jennifer! Having God bring those words to mind is just one of the many blessings of actually knowing His Word. And these times are the very opportunities to build faith in our children as we share how God is faithful to us. Bless you, friend!
