The Quran Dilemma

"A book of terror or a book of peace?  An inspired text or a political agenda?  How is one to know the truth about the Quran?  Where does one even begin?  How can an English-speaking reader ever hope to wade through the history, the translations, the sects, and the commentaries to begin making sense of the issues?"  (from the preface of The Quran Dilemma:  Volume One)

After 9/11, much of the world's attention turned to Islam (a religion comprised of almost 25% of the world's population). It draws all of its principal tenants and foundational teachings from two major sources:
  • The Quran - Islam’s holy book which is considered to be the absolute divine authority and instruction which guides and directs Muslims daily life;
  • The Hadith – Islam’s second main source of ethics, moral values, and jurisprudence. It is based on the accumulated living and spoken traditions of the prophet of Islam.
  Emotions were raw and many people began to seek answers in an attempt to understand the Islamic faith.  The news media didn't do anything to help the general public in this endeavor.  Now we have an invaluable resource in The Quran Delemma.  Former Muslims have analyzed Islam's most holy book so that the English-speaking reader can join this heated discussion with knowledge and understanding.

The Quran Dilemma:  Volume One covers the first nine Suras (chapters) of the Quran.  The remaining Suras will be covered in Volume Two which is set to release later this year.  Both volumes will be available in both English and Arabic.  Along with each Sura, the book also contains an introduction, critical analysis, variant readings, and abrogated verses.  Volume one also contains nine articles to provide readers with the necessary background and context concerning key topics and issues of the Qur’an, including “Compilation of The Qur’an,” “Women in the Qur’an,” and “The Qur’an and People of Other Faiths.”

To non-Muslims who want to unravel the mysteries of Islam, this book presents information that Islamic resources rarely disclose--to allow those who seek the truth to comprehend the full picture with all its outlines, colors, and dimensions.
To Muslims who seek genuine choices far from the culture of “indoctrination,” this book opens a world of understanding to them, so that they can decide for themselves their intellectual and spiritual paths.

The book also includes a helpful glossary and a Who's Who section that provides a brief bibliographical synopsis of some of the mentioned Islamic scholars, exegetes, and historical figures.  The Quran Dilemma uses Islamic Classical references in their original languages to satisfy the scholar.  Yet this commentary is written in a fluid language that allows average readers to enjoy these materials and increase their knowledge of Islam.

The Quran Dilemma reveals the truth regarding the stealthy ideological threat of Islamic Sharia Law which seeks to regulate all manner of behavior in the secular sphere, including economic, social, military, legal, spiritual and political.  Since 9/11, many in the U.S. and the West have realized the risk raised by violent Islamic jihadist and radicals, who have launched an all-out war against all Western societies and their allies in the Middle East.  However, despite such appreciation of this threat, many (including peaceful and moderate Muslims) have fallen short of recognizing the peril posed by Islamic jihadists and radicals who operate by deceit and stealth from within the gates of liberal and democratic societies.

I consider this volume and expect those to follow to be excellent resources that will help me to intelligently engage the world around me as I seek to
"revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect."
1 Peter 3:15
