Blog Fun

Lisa has asked us Minister's Wives to play along in a fun way to get to know each other a little better.  So, here goes...

The Treasures

1.  First Name:  Jennifer

2.  State and Country of Residence:  Florida, U.S.

3.  Husband’s Ministry Title:  Associate Pastor

4.  Length of time in Current Ministry Location:  2 1/2 years

5.  Children? Three: Cecily(11), Bentley (4), and JennaBeth (8 months)

6.  Number of unique homes in which you’ve lived during your marriage:  I would have to say the very first home we lived in was pretty unique!  We had this house that had zero insulation and was quite old!  The curtains moved with the windows shut if you know what I mean!  There was no central air.  We had no washer and dryer and for a period of time our stove was in the bathroom.  I know, weird.  You had to walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom, so in the winter you would make a mad dash from the bathroom through the kitchen, through the living room to the bedroom. We would carry a portable heater thingy from one room to the other to stay warm.  One winter we got a couple of good snows and we would always have to shovel snow out of our front room, because the snow would come in under the door way!

7.  Cook Sunday lunch or eat out?  Because we live on a pretty tight budget and have little money for extras, we eat at home much of the time.  Occasionally, when we have a really good coupon for a local place we will eat out.  Sundays are very busy days for my husband so when we get to eat out it allows for a little more relaxing time at home before he has to go back in the evening for choir practice and the evening worship service.

8.  Typically on time for Sunday School or not?  Much of the time we are on time.  Our Sunday school starts at 9:15 and there are some mornings we are just getting there about 5 minutes before.  Usually this is due to having THREE kids to get ready which is a chore and the fact that it never fails the occasional phone call to my husband.

9.  Favorite TV Show: I love American Idol.  Outside of that I don't watch much T.V.  When I have any free time, which is VERY RARE, I would prefer to have my nose stuck in a good book!

10.  Something you watch/like/do that you would never tell the church people. (Except now you just did…lol) I must be really boring, but I can't think of a thing I wouldn't tell them!
11.  Most annoying church-related pet peeve:  Not being included in "non-church" activities with church members.  Our last couple of ministry positions have been in places a good distance from our family.  It's difficult moving into a community and church setting where long standing relationships and friendships are already established and you are the "outsider".  Don't get me wrong now, especially in our current place of service, we are loved on WELL!  I don't know if people think they don't want to bother us or think it would be to much of a hassle with the little ones we have at home or what.

12.  One thing you need to throw away but can’t bring yourself to do it:  Some of my children's things.  I am very sentimental and need to clean out in this area, but I just can not part with some of their stuff.
13.  The one food you can not live without:  Don't know if this counts as a "food", but I can't live without SWEET TEA!  You know the kind you could use as syrup on your pancakes.
14.  Parsonage or have your own home?  We are renting a home from one of our church members.
15.  Freak when the doorbell rings or always ready for a visitor? FREAK!  Usually, the living room floor is full of toys and most days I don't get a shower until the baby's morning nap time.
This should be lots of fun!  Can't wait to read some of the other minister's wives' responses.

And in keeping with my effort to consciously be thankful each day of November, today I am thankful for the blog community.  For all the evil Satan would love to use the internet for, God uses it for good!  I have been connected to so many wonderful Christian "friends" through blogging.  I am grateful for their encouragement and friendship.  And it is just plain fun, like this scavenger hunt Lisa is hosting.

So, what are you thankful for today?

Counting it all Joy,
Jennifer

Jennifer, I am also a mother of 3 and like my sweet tea pancake syrupy sweet! Like you, I am very thankful for a blogging community where I have been able to make connections.

Great to "meet" you!

P.S. Bless your heart for the cold house. I can stand a lot of things, but I am bad with the cold!!!

My goodness, I can't imagine shoveling snow out of my living room!
It's so fun to read these "treasures" from other ministry partners - we have so much in common.

Oh I totally understand the shower thing! Sometimes I force myself to wake before Hannah and get a shower before Tim goes to the office.

Neat challenge to post your thankfulness in November. On your first cold day in Nov you could be thankful for your insulation on your house now.lol. snowing inside does not sound like fun.

I hear you on being left out every now and then. Until we moved to the south, I'd never had sweet tea. The first time I tried it was at a restaurant and the poor waiter probably lost count of how many refills I had! :)

I put 2 cups of sugar to a gallon of sweet tea. You either love it or hate it..:))))

Hi Jennifer~ I think you've won the award for most unique home! :-) I enjoyed reading your answers - and for the record, I agree that Sweet Tea is a food, too. :)
