Megan's Secrets

Mike Cope has for many years spoken to large audiences around the country about what really matters.  An author of four books, a blogger (preachermike.com), a pastor, and editor of two magazines, Mike currently teaches a class of three hundred university students each semester at Abilene Christian University and works with Heartbeat, a nonprofit company that focuses on culture and religion.

However, Mike would tell you that his greatest teacher was his mentally retarded daughter named Megan.  Listen to him tell you a little about her:

Audra Jennings with the B&B Media group sent me a copy of Mike Cope's book Megan's Secrets:  What My Mentally Disabled Daughter Taught Me About Life for the purpose of review.

In the book, Mike shares four "secrets" Megan shared through her ten short years on earth:
  1. God is a heart specialist
  2. Weak is the new strong
  3. Life together is our only hope
  4. The end is not the end
Megan's Secrets is the story of a little girl, who in ten short years, touched the lives of many in simple but yet profound ways.  What the reader finds in this book is the heart of a father changed forever by his little girl.  Mr. Cope is very transparent in his book about the struggles he and his wife encountered in their care of Megan during her short life, but encourages the reader to look beyond the difficulties and heartbreak life on earth often offers to the greater lesson God is often teaching.

The book is well written and organized into four sections with sub-chapters fleshing out each "secret" further.  There is a discussion guide include in the back, making this an excellent choice for a book club or resource for a support group for those who have lost children.  However, I would recommend this book to anyone even if the loss of a child is not your experience.  As I read the book I was touched by the "secrets", especially "Life together is our only hope".

So, grab this book (and your kleenex) and prepare to be challenged, humbled, and inspired to look for the things in life that really matter.

You can order the book through the link provided below to Amazon.com.
